This is the 2nd post of our series on our keyboard shortcuts, which are the most effective and valuable options for changing Windows 10; this will concentrate on moving windows between laptops and display monitors.
Moving windows between laptop & display monitors
How do you make sure that your monitors are compatible?
If you work from home, you will likely find having an extra monitor and laptops beneficial because they provide more screen space, even though you might not be accustomed to working at the office. These suggestions should be helpful for those who may have yet to work in this manner.
If you use several monitors for your PC, you can use your mouse to move between them like they display the same. It is also possible to drag applications between them like you had a more prominent display. Instead of switching between different windows, you glance around between the applications you work with.
Display Settings
How to set up your screens for Windows 10:
Select your desktop’s right-click and then “Display Settings” or navigate to Settings > System > Display. Display.
Select”Identify” or click the “Identify” link to watch the display number show up on the screen, after which you can drag and drop the display so Windows can recognize how they’re physically situated.
“Display number 1 is the primary display’.
Click “Apply” to keep any changes that you make.
Sidebar shortcuts that extend or duplicate
If you hold the Windows button + P, it will display an additional sidebar where you can select which display mode you’d like to use. Four options are available; extend is the option you’ll most likely use because it opens the desktop between the computer and additional monitors.
PC Screen Only- this option is only for your primary screen. All other screens will become black.
Duplicate- Each display will show the exact image. This option is helpful if you’re doing a demonstration.
Extend: This setting can extend your desktop to another screen.
Second screen only. This option will disable the primary display and only utilize the second one.
Move the active window between displays.
Another tip to consider is when you have multiple monitors and add more desktops between them, it is easy to move the active window between screens. It is done with Windows+Shift+Left (or left) Arrow.

Moving Windows using Drag and Drop Method Drag and Drop Method
When you’ve established that you’re running Extend mode, the easiest way to transfer windows between screens is with a mouse. The title bar will appear on the window that you want to move, and drag it towards the edge of your display in the direction that is the other screen. The window will then move towards the opposite collection. If you want to return it to the original production, move the window in the opposite direction.
Windows using the Keyboard Shortcut Method
Windows 10 includes a convenient keyboard shortcut that lets you immediately move a window from an additional display without using a different mouse.
If you wish to shift an existing window into an area just to the left of your display, press Windows, Shift, and Left Arrow.
If you wish to shift an existing window into one on the right side of the current one, press Windows, Shift, and Right Arrow.
Keyboard shortcuts to shift the window between two monitors rather than dropping and dragging.
I’m looking for a simple method to transfer a window from one monitor to another using the dual monitor configuration without needing to drag the window using the mouse. This is particularly useful for windows with full-screen resolutions since to move them, I’ll need to remove them from the entire screen, hold them using the mouse, and then move them to another screen. I prefer to do something with a keyboard shortcut.
I wonder if it is available, as I could not find it on the List of keyboard shortcuts. It’s an enhancement for users with more than one monitor and can provide a reason for the required switching between several applications. Since Windows looks at various monitors and labels each within the settings for personalization as 1/2/3/etc, it makes the most sense to have two monitors: an up and down. If I’m using Windows on monitor 2, I could use the keyboard shortcut and move it to the exact spot in monitor 1. (down) and Monitor 3 (up).
This information may exist in some form, but I need help locating it. If not, it’s instrumental, specifically in graphics design or programming.
(I also filled out the questionnaire for this issue using Windows 7, the operating system I have at home. However, it placed it under the XP forum, as that’s what my laptop is running.)
Then, make sure Extend Mode is On.
If you want to move Windows across more than one display, you’ll need to utilize a multi-monitor feature named “Extend,” which extends the desktop’s overall collections. For this, you need to hit Windows+P at the keyboard, and you’ll be able to access the “Project” menu (as it appears in “projection”). Click “Extend” within the menu when it shows.
It is essential to know that certain games that can accommodate multiple monitors also have specific settings for multi-display in the game. Be sure to check the settings of your game for options to display after changing to Extend mode to ensure that they function correctly.
What is the best way to use multiple monitors to be more productive?
Switch Windows between Displays by using the mouse.
When you’re now operating in Extend mode, you can use Extend to transfer app windows between two or more displays using the mouse. Select the title bar for the window you wish to move, and move it along the edge of your screen to the display you want to target. If the window reaches the edges of the initial screen, it’ll begin to show up on the second display. Press the mouse once the app’s window appears how you’d like it to be.
For a reversed procedure, move the window toward the edges of the screen.
Transfer Windows between displays using the keyboard
With Windows 11, you can transfer a window from the following collection immediately with the help of a convenient keyboard shortcut; no mouse is needed. How to accomplish it:
To change a window’s orientation to an orientation towards the left side of the display, you are currently Press Windows + Shift + Left Arrow.
To shift a window into an orientation that is toward the right side of the current screen to the right, use Windows + Shift + Right Arrow.
The shortcut keyboard method can work on as many monitors connected to your computer. If the window hits the top-numbered screen while traveling, it’ll wrap around and then show up on the monitor with the lowest number or vice versa.
